About this course
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic retail operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various retail store settings, such as specialty stores, supermarkets, department stores and retail outlets. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway .

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles, such as:
• provide product and service advice in a retail store
• sell products and services in a variety of retail settings
• work as a checkout operator
• check stock and replenish shelves
• organise and maintain work areas and displays.
Possible job titles include:
• sales assistant
• customer service assistant
This program consists of 360 nominal hours and is offered as per an agreed training plan over a period of 12 months.
On-Line : Online delivery gives you the flexibility to fit your study around your existing commitments while still having the full support of industry experts. Study at your own pace and access the course materials at a time that is suitable to you, from right where you are.
The delivery method will consist of 3 modes - Theory / Practical / Workplace to best support and enable the student to receive a positive learning experience.
Please note: Non work based students will be required to carry out vocational placement within a work place in order to be assessed for the unit - SIRXIND001 (Work effectively in a service environment)
There are no entry requirements.
However, you will need to have access to a computer with an internet connection and before enrolling, you proficiency in language, literacy and numeracy will be assessed to determine what level of support you may need to assist you through your study program.

Methods of assessment for this qualification cover a range of evidence gathering including self assessment, written questions and answers, work based projects, observations and supplementary evidence such as third party reports .
Assessments can be modified according to the workplace subject to the training packaging rules being met.
