This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who use a range of well-developed hospitality skills. They use discretion and judgement and have a sound knowledge of industry operations. They work with some independence and under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway .

Course length

The nominal course duration for this program is 24 months.

On-line delivery gives you the flexibility to fit your study around your existing committments while still having the support of industry expperts . Study at your own pace and acess the coruse materials  at a time that is suitbale to you, from right where you are.

Please note: Non work-based students will be required to complete 36 shifts to complete the unit - SITHIND004 (Work effectively in hospitality service).



There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Before enrolling, your proficiency in language, literacy and numeracy will be assessed to determine what level of support you may need to assist you through your study program.

Students require access to a computer with an internet connection. 



15 units must be completed:

  • 7 core units
  • 8 elective units

Methods of asessment for this qualification cover a range of evidence gathering including  self assessment, written questions and answers, work based projects, observations and supplementary evidence such as third party reports.


This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. It provides options for specialisation in areas such as accommodation services, food and beverage and gaming. The qualification also allows an outcome for small businesses requiring multi-skilled employees.

  • function host
